Media and Communications Intern
Media outreach: Creating media lists and maintaining media databases, pitching reporters, bloggers, producers and editors at a variety of media outlets, monitoring news and social media, and compiling summaries of coverage.
Content creation: Drafting persuasive and concise content for mainstream media including press releases, blogs, facebook, twitter and other social networks.
Website and social media optimization: Plan, create and post content for our website and all social media channels
Supporting projects as otherwise needed

Specifically, this position offers you
a. Skills development: This position offers you the opportunity to develop your skills and privilege to get an opportunity for hands on experience at a leading minority and indigenous peoples’ organisation in Kenya, in-house trainings and other training opportunities on minority and indigenous peoples’ rights and empowerment. It will thus help you learn new skills, keep skills sharp, or use existing skills in new ways.

Career exploration: This position is an excellent way to learn more about this particular role and media sector, workplace or office culture, or cause, including privileged access to the media in Kenya. It will also present an opportunity to network with other people who work in the media and advocacy sector and thereby extend your knowledge of what is happening in communications related to minorities and indigenous peoples. Further, the position offers the opportunity to network—as well as, in many cases, quickly bond—with people from across different communities, including many with whom you may otherwise not have had contact.
