Voice of Change: Championing Beekeeping among the Youth

Climate resilience needs a next generation willing to carry it forward - and Kibet Kipsang's story is about exactly that: a young member of the Ogiek hunter-gatherer community building a future around beekeeping.
Kibet speaks candidly about what that takes - the setup costs, the patience, the knowledge passed down and the knowledge he's had to build for himself - alongside what it gives back: an income source that doesn't demand clearing land, and a direct stake in keeping the forest his community depends on intact. For young people weighing whether to stay in agriculture and conservation work at all, stories like Kibet's make the financial and environmental case side by side.
This story is one of seven told by community champions themselves, part of Voices for Change - a partnership between the CGIAR Initiative on Climate Resilience (ClimBeR) and CEMIRIDE exploring how indigenous knowledge and rights-based approaches are already building climate resilience across Kenya's minority and indigenous communities.
